Mommy Says Enough Already

Okay, this is a tad more prissy than usual. Let me apologize ahead of time.

Thank you for those who had let me know what's been going on about my LJ. Please know I do appreciate everyone looking out for me, even more so, I'm humbled that people still want to read some of the affected older fics archived here.

What I don't appreciate, however, is the irate, cranky PMs, a total of fifteen this past two weeks, complaining that I 'screwed up' my formatting and that they 'don't have patience' for this and I'll 'lose readers' if I don't fix it now. Too many to reply to each one, and honestly, a little too miffed now to apologize any more.

I have recoded 17 chapters so far, but there's still 738 more pages to go in hand coding. And no, I can't just use LJ's Rich text function because that's what I'd used before and why everything got messed up now. So I am going back and doing this right, but I only have one working hand and pounds of laundry and chores I need to do daily. So, please, mommy's sorry, but I am working as fast as I can.

I also can't really do the following:

1. I can not change the style of my LJ to a lighter background: there's no guarantee it'll fix everything and may muck up all I've recoded already.
2. Can't use Rich text function because ____ See above.
3. Can't post it on another LJ because I still need to recode everything first and since I'm doing that, I might as well post to here and share the link because it's faster
4. I can't format and combine into a PDF: 1003 pages, all piece-mealed and not in a single file because you know what? Mommy's an old, grouchy mommy who didn't know tech and used all sorts of software and laptops to write this so yeah, a little disorganized. My priority needs to be with my lovely LJ siblings first. So LJ first, formatted PDF and whatever ebook thing you insist I should do later.
5. No, I can't move everything to Dreamwidth because again, must recode first. Starting over on a totally new site would take longer.
6. No, I can't stop writing STXI. Yes, it might be distracting me from all the recoding, but frankly, I need the breather from the death!angst and the follies of LJ. Trust me, I'm less cranky towards TW this way. It's like hubby on the couch. No, children, mommy and daddy aren't getting a divorce, mommy just needs a time out because daddy was being stupid today. LOL.

Okay? That's it. I'm taking down the PM function today once I figure out how because reading mentioned gripes is only slowing everything up. I rather be posting to

st_xi_kink, pleading for hugging fics than read about how I messed up my formatting on LJ.

Rant over. Sorry everyone. Again, this is not towards you all. Just the PMs who apparently think just because I'm a housewife, I have all the time in the world. If I lose a few readers because I'm 'taking too long to fix this', so be it.

I can understand PMing to tell you there is a priblem, just because it is nice of them, but for them to bitch and complain is counterproductive.

when i got to those parts i just highlighted them. my only reccomendation is to post a disclaimer at the top of the chapter and say the coding is fucked and you are working as fast as you can

if it would help, i'd be willing to do some coding for you if you'd let me/give me an example of what you're trying to do. I just finished my Lit Review/paper for my class and have a bit before my next class starts... And it would be a nice distraction (if it would help YOU!). I'm not a tech wiz, but i can do the teadious "put < here, end code with / there" with the BEST of 'em! ::grin::

BTW - Please feel free to take breaks to share cool ST fic! You do an AMAZING job with those boys as well.

Yeah, my family is giving me the same grief. Just because I'm currently unemployed translates into me having all the time in the world to do everything on their list that they deem to be important and gives them the right to tell strangers personal information about me.

Um, sorry but I'm swamped here and have it on my list. I'm working as fast as I can.

Take your time on recoding. Take a break. The nasty PM's are not worth it.

First, I would recommend that you think about turning off anonymous commenting, because these people are bratty, entitled, annoyances who do not deserve your time.

Second, why can't people just use the "?style=mine" add on to the url to get the entries into a format that they'd like to read? Then they get the story immediately and you don't have to worry about recoding.

I'm so sorry you're having to recode everything! I don't know if it helps, but I copied and pasted all of Oncoming Storm into one RTF file a while back and I'd be happy to send it to you if you want it. Hang in there--I'm with you on the mountains of laundry plus constant chores thing. It's a miracle any of us get internet time at all!

I have been floating around your journal the past few days, after discovering your awesome stories over at st_xi_kink, and though I am normally very shy and just lurk, i thought I would post and say how much I enjoy your Star Trek fic to help cheer you up. Normally I ship K/S but your fics definatly opened my eyes to K/Mc. Thank you for your stories, and I hope you write more Star Trek.

It's okay, hon. The file is okay, I just have to code. It only takes long because of the italics and bold I need to code one by one.

I am unable to get an account so yes this will register an anon, I have learned two things while reading fic in the torchwood communities, one is patience and the other is gratitude that many amazing and talented people take the time to write and post while juggling lives, loves and seriously funny and endearing friends lists. I am still learning the correct terms and manners for posting and commenting, but somehow it would never occur to me to become a "backseat beta". For one thing my spelling is atrocious (see!).
Please ignore the nasty comments, and thankyou for not turning off the comments section yet so that I am able to say once more Thankyou.

People are so rude on the net. It's all me me me, mine mine mine. They've got a sense of entitlement worse than any toddler, like you're only there to provide entertainment for them. You've got a life of your own, kids to raise and husband to wrangle. Ignore them.

If you ever want someone to help you out, I'm quick and accurate at coding, and I'm currently unemployed, so I have PLENTY of time on my hands.

Also, I'm more than willing to organise a PDF version once the cleaned up, betad versions of all the chapters have gone live. Let me know if you're interested.

I might take you up on the offer of PDF because I honestly have no idea how to do that. Coding is normally fine. I saved headers and so forth. My problem is I use so many italics in this fic, I have fine them and go < i > on each one. I wish there was an easier way...

I'm sorry that people are being idiots, just ignore them and take your time. I love your TW fics and they're worth waiting for.

As for coding I sympathize, LJ is a right pain and is always screwing up my fonts and text sizes. And I'm inept at this stuff so I understand and wish I could help.

BTW I don't know how to code anything. LJ is SO hard to use. I will not be bringing over my early fic from ffnet as I was orginally planning because it is SO hard.

I will post new stuff in both places.

Stupid people are stupid. They're lucky you're encoding anything, really.

Some people have entitlement issues, but it comes down to, you're doing this for the love of it, out of your spare time, and generously sharing it with everyone else. Anything we get is gravy.

Disclaimer: I'm here for the ST, not TW, so I'm possibly biased. But, no, stupid people are still stupid.

Sometimes the stupid people on the internet make my head hurt too. It's like by being anonymous/hidden behind an avatar allows them to say the all the rude, obnoxious and sometimes frankly prejudiced things, that embarrassment and fear of retribution would stop them from saying to your face. (Sadly) I can't stop free speech over the internet, but your LJ is your little piece of it and should only be dictated by you. We are merely minions :)

I'm very grateful to people who write great fanfic as I have tried but I cant write for toffee myself. I will wait patiently for the next oncoming storm series whenever you are ready.

If someone wants to read your stories in a different formatting, all they need to do is add ?style=mine (so they get: http://d8rkmessngr.livejournal.com/69070.html?style=mine) to the url and they have it in their own LJ style. I do it like that because I'm blind as a bad and need huge letters on a light background.

I could try getting it into PDF file because I do it with fics I like anyway, although 1000 pages seem daunting so I can't promise anything :)
