Mommy Says Enough Already

Okay, this is a tad more prissy than usual. Let me apologize ahead of time.


Thank you for those who had let me know what's been going on about my LJ. Please know I do appreciate everyone looking out for me, even more so, I'm humbled that people still want to read some of the affected older fics archived here.

What I don't appreciate, however, is the irate, cranky PMs, a total of fifteen this past two weeks, complaining that I 'screwed up' my formatting and that they 'don't have patience' for this and I'll 'lose readers' if I don't fix it now. Too many to reply to each one, and honestly, a little too miffed now to apologize any more.

I have recoded 17 chapters so far, but there's still 738 more pages to go in hand coding. And no, I can't just use LJ's Rich text function because that's what I'd used before and why everything got messed up now. So I am going back and doing this right, but I only have one working hand and pounds of laundry and chores I need to do daily. So, please, mommy's sorry, but I am working as fast as I can.

I also can't really do the following:

1. I can not change the style of my LJ to a lighter background: there's no guarantee it'll fix everything and may muck up all I've recoded already.
2. Can't use Rich text function because ____ See above.
3. Can't post it on another LJ because I still need to recode everything first and since I'm doing that, I might as well post to here and share the link because it's faster
4. I can't format and combine into a PDF: 1003 pages, all piece-mealed and not in a single file because you know what? Mommy's an old, grouchy mommy who didn't know tech and used all sorts of software and laptops to write this so yeah, a little disorganized. My priority needs to be with my lovely LJ siblings first. So LJ first, formatted PDF and whatever ebook thing you insist I should do later.
5. No, I can't move everything to Dreamwidth because again, must recode first. Starting over on a totally new site would take longer.
6. No, I can't stop writing STXI. Yes, it might be distracting me from all the recoding, but frankly, I need the breather from the death!angst and the follies of LJ. Trust me, I'm less cranky towards TW this way. It's like hubby on the couch. No, children, mommy and daddy aren't getting a divorce, mommy just needs a time out because daddy was being stupid today. LOL.

Okay? That's it. I'm taking down the PM function today once I figure out how because reading mentioned gripes is only slowing everything up. I rather be posting to st_xi_kink, pleading for hugging fics than read about how I messed up my formatting on LJ.

Rant over. Sorry everyone. Again, this is not towards you all. Just the PMs who apparently think just because I'm a housewife, I have all the time in the world. If I lose a few readers because I'm 'taking too long to fix this', so be it.

You take your time, and ignore the idiots. And keep writing whatever you want. I'll probably read it once I see the new ST (No, haven't seen it yet!) :) It is your LJ after all...

Still: Are people born this dumb or is it an acquired skill as they go along? Don't have patience? Lose readers? No one is forcing anyone to read anything, you nits! If people don't want to read, fine, but throwing a tantrum and threatening to take your toys back home is just silly...

Maybe you should get someone to help you because it is hard to read your fic when it goes from white font then to black. You should have picked a different background.

Chapters 18-30 something has black font, not good for a black background. Chapters 1-17 the same for some, paragraph tags gone, but I hand coded those with the betaed versions (I was planning to slowly anyway) so those are good. The rest (sob).

Thanks, hon. I know this. I do. I do feel bad for the inconvenience and if back then, I had coded everything right, I wouldn't have had this problem. Like knowing I should have made smaller pet doors so my cats wouldn't flee outside at lightning. You furry idiots, that's where the lightning is! LOL

Oh and your background??? Your choice too. There is always the view in my style option for people who have trouble reading on certain colours.

The black background is a nuisance. Maybe you can just change it to a white color for your readers. I'm halfway up to your story and I had to stop because your story kept switching from light lettering to dark.

Really don’t care how the fic looks when it is this good. The fact that you’ve so much coding translates to me as *loads* of an amazing story with beautiful characterizations, blending of angst and humour, an interesting plot and a fantastic story (plus many sprinklings of loverly smut). IMHO, all of the above is more than worth waiting for, if only because it gives me an excuse to re-read. And re-read...
Also, your STXI has seduced me away from the original OTP. If this is you sidetracked, I think I’d almost be scared to see what you do focused. Am not the most techie minded person, so the whole concept of coding stuff would have me running like a mad thing for the hills, so also you've got my respect for doing so much for demanding readers. First, I'm not having any problems with your site (running FF 3.012 on a Mac). BUT, if people complain send them to zap colors (https://www.squarefree.com/bookmarklets/zap.html) if it is an issue of not being able to read the text due to color problems. If that is not it, send them to Readability (http://lab.arc90.com/experiments/readability/). That turns any page into perfectly readable text, although you can't comment with it turned on. Then tell them to let you do your recoding in peace.

Honestly? I've given up replying to every problem. That's probably petty and b_tchy of me to do, but at this point, I really am coding as fast as I can. Well, alternating with just crying in frustration because really, this whole thing probably could have been avoid ages ago if I'd mastered LJ better then.

Sigh.

But I think in a few days, when I'm not being so prissy, I'll list all these solutions up and scurry away and finish fixing the site. Thanks, sweetie. You guys have been my bouys out in the storm. Pun intended. ;)
