Yes, mommy and wife duties overriding writing/fun time. But wanted to write a quickie 15 minutes again to feel like I made some progress.

Free writing again so not betaed, but hopefully still readable. :)

Title: Moments #2
Fandom: Star Trek XI
Pairing: Kirk/McCoy
Rating: PG-13
Summary: What are our boys doing right now.
Warning: Not betaed

It wasn't like he rehearsed what he was going to say in the shuttle down to Iowa. He was too fucking busy praying to, what Spock would call antiquated and unconfirmed, deities that goddamn Chekov would stop making goo-goo eyes on Jim (keptin, that was amazing! I must remember to tell Hikaru that one!) and not crash the shuttle into Jim's childhood home.

Leonard knew what he was going to do. Hell, he courted the EX (he's never giving her a name anymore because he caught the flinches Jim always denied making every time Leonard brought her up). He was going to be polite, gracious, outright fucking charming to Winona Kirk. He was not going to mention the fact that while Jim seemed fine to restart out some sort of dysfunctional, avoidance (because the name Frank was apparently gone as were his things in the house), 'we will never speak of anything remotely traumatic starting with the letter T again' relationship with his mother, Leonard thought it was fucking ironic enough to make even a Vulcan weep.

No, Leonard smiled at Winona, shook her hand when she stepped out on the weathered porch to meet the shuttle. He ate her pork chops (they were, he hated to admit, fantastic even though they were undercooked, too fatty and probably too saturated in sodium that would drive up Jim's blood pressure). He dried the dishes and even laughed (chuckled) at the antics of a young Jim he suspected were not firsthand accounts. Leonard said nothing when Winona, for once in her life, gave a shit about Jim's health, tsked at his pallor (Jim wasn't completely free of the Tajoran flu yet) and shooed him off to bed. There were nods, smiles, chuckles but they never truly shared a word of conversation since the initial "Pleased to meet you, ma'am" yesterday. And well, that suited him just fine. Leonard had kissed Jim hard on the mouth back in Jim's quarters and told him it was going to be all right. So it was going to be fucking perfect.

Hell, so far, Leonard was exactly what he figured Jim needed him to be. And he knew when they get back to San Fransisco to visit Pike, the sex was going to be dirty, sweaty, bed breaking, muscle straining fucking fantastic as his reward. However, Leonard still felt like his skin was on too tight and he was going to break out into oozing sores soon from all this damn congeniality.

A neighbor's dog bayed in the distance against the sunset. Leonard hoped it doesn't wake Jim and made a note to check on him before going to bed himself in the guest room across (dammit) the hall. For now, he was content to sit on one of the barrels by the porch and it's wooden stump remains of a frame and chain that was once a swing. It had busted long ago and no one cared enough to fix it so there were no summer nights, stargazing from a swaying seat.

Leonard sat on the barrel, his knees slightly apart because he had no faith on a cast that smelled vaguely of dust and booze and oil. It's weird to sit there wearing a worn black t-shirt, the feel of his plaid shirt's soft, overwashed cotton over his arms, the dry scratch of stubble on his cheeks. Even his favorite pair of worn denim jeans felt strange, new, alien on him. But after eight months of wearing blue and breathing nothing but filtered air in a starship, Leonard recognized this feeling as a new luxury.

The door groaned open and Leonard tensed when he saw Winona step out. His eyebrow rose when he noticed the tray of tall glasses and bourbon she carried.

Winona was Jim in all appears: same gleam in the eye, the golden coloring of walking sunlight, the same grace of being comfortable in his or her body. Time and grief had tempered her looks but she could still turn heads, if she cared to, that is. Grief had also made her oblivious.

Leonard gave her a nod when she cocked her head towards the barrels next to him. His mind was already preparing responses, triaging potential subjects he might come across and should avoid. Winona set the tray down on one barrel, set herself down on the other and poured two fingers of bourbon in both glasses. Leonard's eyebrow rose higher when Winona gulped down her drink. She set the glass down and looked directly at Leonard in the eye.

A crooked smirk curved Winona's mouth.

"So," she drawled, her eyes gleaming, "you're Bones."

And for the first time since they arrived, Leonard McCoy began to sweat.

Who would be scarier? Winona or Bones? :)

Winona at first, I think, until Bones gets his feet under him. Then he'd turn the tables.

And the only response I can think of to this one is 'MUHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHA'.
I think I like your Winona.

:D Thanks. I would be protective of Jim, too. LOL

Hmm, he'll only let her go so far, I'm guessing... Not that Bones didn't take off to the edges of the galaxy when he was a father too, so he can't blame her for that, but at least he knew he was leaving his girl in the hands of a good parent!

I like Winona. I think the glimpse we got of her was of a loving wife and mother, who dropped the ball. But if I loved either of her sons, I'd be fighting to be polite to her too. Because as Bones sees in the end, loving someone means wanting to fight battles for them when they don't want you to!

Exactly although at the time, I was writing to get it under 15 minutes because Tic crawled onto my lap and napping kitty with claws? Not fun! :)

Haha, not as bad as insecure kitty who pounces on your feet and cuts through skin when he bites your ankles, because he sees boxes and suitcases and knows mommy is moving!

Your work is always amazing, dear, don't ever think it isn't. ;)

Lovely little tale, I love how paranoid Bones is about the whole thing. ;)

Heyheyhey HAYYYY, do I sense the clue bus coming my way? XD;

I'm right at 45k right now, hoping I can keep up the momentum. :)

45K? Any more momentum and the boys--Oh, can't say that! Hee! Momentum made me think porn. Bad mommy. LOL

Hehehehe~ :D Nothing wrong with that!

The hard part is that I don't even think I'm half done yet. ::headdesk:: If I wrote in order, I would probably release it in 2 parts or something, but I have most of the first quarter done, part of the 3rd quarter, bits of the second~

Haha I love how Leonard is so determined to make this work that he's willing to hold back his normal sarcastic grumpy self, and then Winona comes out ... *snigger*

Good work :D

Bones was trying to be a Southern gentleman. I think Winona was thinking shotgun wedding. LOL

Very well done. I loved seeing all this from Bones' perspective and feeling his unease with all of it. At the end, I think Winona would be pretty scary, but get a glass of bourbon in Bones and I bet that he'd be giving her what for.

I like to think that after Narada, the Kirk family reconciled. So Jim's already told Winona all about Bones.

Gwen's eyes got bigger as she read the short little fiction that Tosh had shown her.

"They actually write things like this?" she asked Tosh.

"Yep. Lots and lots of them write pages. Some good. Some bad. And if you're lucky, some really hot slash. This is one of the best writers."

"And you read this?" Gwen asked innocently, feeling her face turn pink.

"As much as possible and if I'm really lucky, Jack and Ianto will re-enact some of the porn in these things for me. I'm one lucky woman."

Oh-- what a perfect place to end this! I don't know how I missed these except to blame it on the madness of the ending of Ship Wars, but I'm so glad I came by to re-read your Academy Series and found these.

These were fun to do but getting the feedback, especially now, really makes my night. I do missing writing those boys. And reading! How are you? :)
